Below is the transcript for episode 1, where we watch the 1985 Action/Comedy, The Last Dragon, starring Taimak and the late Vanity, to determine if we have been missing out, or were right to have never "scene" it.

We discuss

  • Our favorite and least favorite parts
  • The romance to action ratio
  • What we would have done differently
  • And more...

Shawn  00:18

With that, with that up, welcome to unseen culture classics. This is officially our first content episode. So we're gonna get right into it. Our first movie is the last dragon. This came out in 1985. And I'm gonna throw it to Brett to give us a synopsis.

Brad  00:38

Yeah, so, in New York City, a young man searches for the master to obtain the final level martial arts mastery known as the glow. Along the way, he must fight a martial arts expert, corrupted with power and rescue a beautiful singer from obsess music promoter. garena I mean, it sounds sounds like a good movie. Could be

Shawn  01:09

maybe. So we're gonna get into these first impressions. Here. Let's

Brad  01:13

do that. All right.

Shawn  01:14

Do you wanna go Firstly, when we go first?

Brad  01:16

No, you ladies first? Would you would you thinking about this? Synopsis?

Shawn  01:19

So I have a lot of thoughts. Okay, first, it's a blank martial arts movie. Yes. All right. I think I was correct. Number two, the glow is not real. Is going to be like his inner strength or, or something. And that was true. Kind of kind of Yes. Because he did glow. But it came from him realizing that he was a master. So his internal battle. But then I had a question too, initially, is the glow is the glow or the actor slash character, the last dragon. But I think the actor was the last dragon right? Bruce Leroy was the last dragon.

Brad  02:07

So the master at the beginning, before we get into too much plot, mentioned that he'd found all the other dragons, like I guess part of this training. Right. And the glow, I guess was the last

Shawn  02:23

last dragon. So I was right. So he was the glow. It was internal. So the glow is the is Bruce Lee where he is. And he's the last dragon.

Brad  02:33

So yeah, so was Bruce green, I guess. First or sorry? Leroy green. Yeah, Lee.

Shawn  02:45

So my next one is that the girl was the martial arts experts girlfriend, which was not right at all. And I thought that he was going to be the martial arts expert and music. Exactly. But they were two different people.

Brad  03:01

Very different. Yes.

Shawn  03:05

They will have a showdown to see who she's gonna choose. So they didn't what they did have a showdown, but it didn't involve her choosing the master or Bruce Lee.

Brad  03:14

Now she kind of had her eyes set on him like the whole time.

Shawn  03:20

Yeah. My other thing well, actually, I still have a few more. I don't like love stories that are disguised as action movies. Okay. Okay. And that's what it turned out to be. It was from 1985. So I felt like there was gonna be bad acting and visuals, which it was. Yeah. And then, my last thing I the only actor actor slash actress that I knew was vanity. I never watched any of these other people. This is a horrible sign for the movie. Yeah. Because, yeah. Alright, so what about you? Oh, by the way, neither of us have seen this movie before. So this was our first time watching. Yeah, this

Brad  04:08

is blind for both of us.

Shawn  04:12

Alright, so what do you think actors synopsis?

Brad  04:14

So the first thing I wrote down was I was expecting at least one good fight scene. Okay, which did not occur.

Shawn  04:21

Um, okay.

Brad  04:23

And when I say good, I mean good in terms of choreography. Okay,

Shawn  04:27

I agree with that. Entertainment. Okay, I

Brad  04:29

laughed a few times. That's on the fight scenes, but I don't think that was for good reason. I got I said there'll probably be some bad romance plot that I just want it to like be done. So the actual plot can happen. And that was like the whole movie. I said the main character had a friend. He probably get killed. Doesn't happen

Shawn  04:55

and doesn't really have a friend. Barely Hey, friends.

Brad  04:57

Yeah. The thing to close was to any conflict or any friend being a danger with his little brother.

Shawn  05:04

Yeah. Or that or his student?

Brad  05:07

Yeah, but he just I don't know that they're really happy with him. Yeah, he was kind of Loki one of the best characters in the movie.

Shawn  05:16

Yeah, I liked him as well. Yeah. I think his name was Johnny.

Brad  05:20

Yeah, it was Johnny. Something, Johnny, Johnny Johnny. That's really all I had this is based off that synopsis. Okay, it's all I guess I had nothing to like, like you're guessing the whole plot points regarding like the master and who they might be. And then being involved with a woman and things like that. I was just thinking, the last fight scene is going to be fire. And it was ember. It was. It was like low key as part. It wasn't that good. Yeah, well, we'll get we'll get into like, more of the movie as we go. We're just

Shawn  06:03

Well, I mean, while we're here, let's watch your favorite part.

Brad  06:10

So I think for me, the funniest part, and really the best part of movie was when sho nuff showed up to the restaurant, just destroyed it. So I lost it when he like, just straight out karate chop the table in half at the restaurant. I don't know why it was just so funny to me. Just first of all the Legos made out of cardboard. Yeah. So I think that like, I don't know, just the visual would just so good.

Shawn  06:43

I think I didn't write that as one of my favorite scenes, but I did like when he kicked the jukebox or whatever. And I was like, it's not mine.

Brad  06:50

Yeah, the whole scene is golden. And then they broke the window, and it came back and broke more windows. And he put the little brother and trash can. The whole everything that happened was good. Okay, like, the loads, we're getting his little come up things

Shawn  07:08

that are generally only favorite.

Brad  07:12

I really liked the intro. Like when he's like, actually searching for the Master? No, not that part. When he's going to New York. I think technically, it's already in New York, but he's like searching in Chinatown. And playing like the theme song. Okay, so it will just seem sounds kind of good. Yeah,

Shawn  07:30

I did. I put the opening with my favorite tube. But the training part is like when they showed him kind of, I don't know what the term is. But like it's not shadow boxing or shadow fighting, whatever. But whatever you call that opening, like that. And then when he was actually with the his master, right? And he was like, chopping the arrows and stuff.

Brad  07:52

Apparently that was real. Oh.

Shawn  07:55

He's like a real shot. martial art expert. So yeah. And then I had two more. The whole movie theater scene.

Brad  08:04

So Oh, yeah, that was that was pretty good. So I thought

Shawn  08:07

the crowd was funny. Like when it first started, and they were watching the real Bruce Lee's movie. And her dragon. Yeah, yeah. And the dragon, which I have never seen either. If it was black,

Brad  08:18

we'd be watching it. But fortunately, it's not.

Shawn  08:22

Yeah. But then when sho nuff came in, and they did his whole intro, who was the meanest show nerf? Yeah, I thought that I loved it. loved everything about it. And then I put very, like small but I really liked seeing Keisha Knight Pulliam. A little sister. That was a cute little cameo.

Brad  08:47

Yeah, it was nice seeing her. I think it's funny that that made my favorite. Yes, that means the movie was not that good.

Shawn  08:56

I mean, we'll get into a raid and yeah, she was my favorite part. One of them. Okay. Yeah. Not favorite, but I have a few that I did not like.

Brad  09:07

Bingo there. Okay. I think that's gonna be a longer list, I assume. Well,

Shawn  09:13

I have three things for this tune. The first is Vanadis character, Laura. Her choreographed dance scene at the low club.

Brad  09:24

Yeah, it was horrible. That wasn't good. Capital.

Shawn  09:27

H horrible. No. They got it. I don't even know what those moves. Were. I don't think I've ever seen anybody dance like that. Yeah, I've

Brad  09:35

never seen that. You gotta ask like some parents or something with that call. That's called. Right.

Shawn  09:43

The second thing was Angela. I think that's her name the record execs girlfriend. So she was trying to get a record deal, but her voice was annoying. Her singing was terrible. So I hated that.

Brad  09:58

Yeah, I think she was supposed to be like Gay like a Cyndi Lauper type of thing? Think was supposed to be like,

Shawn  10:06

I want to be.

Brad  10:07

I think I'm supposed to be like a parody of Cyndi Lauper.

Shawn  10:10

Yeah. Well wasn't good.

Brad  10:11

I think that was supposed to be the point. She's supposed to be bad.

Shawn  10:15

And then the stunt work. The whole movie all the fight scenes, garbage trash, trash. That's my least favorite.

Brad  10:24

Yeah, I think you we talked about it whenever you're watching it, but my least favorite is definitely the three minute commercial for the barge.

Shawn  10:33

Right. So by the way, the movie started and it said, Barry Gordy presents the lash dragon. And we were like, what?

Brad  10:42

Yeah, you definitely get the feel that it's a Motown movie.

Shawn  10:48

Yes, clearly. The soundtrack was pretty good, though. I liked the music. Well, yeah.

Brad  10:53

I mean, it's a Motown movie. Yeah. So the music was on point. But you just had to sit through the barge for three minutes.

Shawn  11:00

Yeah. And it wasn't even like the barge was really there. It was the music video.

Brad  11:04

Yeah, they just basically played the music video. It was like watching. It's like watching MTV for a little bit.

Shawn  11:13

I don't think so. I feel like it wasn't really that entertaining.

Brad  11:16

No, that's what I'm saying. Like, if you're just in the morning, getting ready, and then all of a sudden your music video comes on. You're like what's happening?

Shawn  11:24

Yeah, I guess.

Brad  11:27

for way too long. Yeah, I agree. I would say well, it's gonna be over.

Shawn  11:32

Also, I thought it was like kind of vanities character. I don't want to call her Vanna these characters, Laura. I didn't think she was believable as a DJ either.

Brad  11:42

I mean, I agree.

Shawn  11:44

I mean, I don't know. Yeah. Um,

Brad  11:47

she wasn't a believable as a dancer either. Very true. Very sad.

Shawn  11:54

Just a couple other things. So I thought it was I just, you know, had this as an aside. One. Bruce Leroy, or leverage ring is not supposed to know who Laura is. But some kind of way he was at her show. At least the lead out, right. Like when they first met, she's coming out signing autographs, and he's just he's standing there staring at her. I mean, it's just because she's beautiful. So you think it's just a coincidence that he was there? Right. Okay.

Brad  12:27

To talk about the first time we're gonna save right? Yeah. Yeah, I think he's just Right Place Right Time.

Shawn  12:33

Man. Why did he Why did he follow her? I mean, I think it's good that he followed her because she was getting kidnapped. But like, with her beauty. Okay. And then, homeboy was in the movie theater. eating popcorn with chopsticks.

Brad  12:52

Okay. You got to keep your hands clean. You won't get your hands out. Buttery.

Shawn  12:56

So, you know, those finger chopstick thing? For sure. Thank you. Yep. So they probably got it from the

Brad  13:02

Yeah, Leroy did it first. Right? They, they Oh, timelock. A check.

Shawn  13:10

Yeah. So how would you read it? Overall?

Brad  13:14

It's very mid. I've given it. Like, out of five. I'd say that. If you know that. If you know there's going to be you'd probably have a really good time. If you thought you're going to see a martial arts movie with black people in it. It'd be very disappointed.

Shawn  13:35

Um, I also thought it was pretty mid I gave it a three out of five. Done well done. I didn't get my rating. Oh, I'm sorry. Going?

Brad  13:47

Explain. Explain your theory though.

Shawn  13:49

I just feel like there's a lot of stuff I would change. I don't think it should have been called the last dragon. Why? Because they talked about the dragon in the beginning. Right. And that was pretty much it. The whole focus was the glow. And then once he found that, that master or whoever taught him that was gonna be the last dragon. But he is the last strike. So I

Brad  14:09

think it was think that glow is the last dragon is the last thing he has to accomplish.

Shawn  14:16

Well, okay, but then at the end the mess told him it was just a belt buckle.

Brad  14:21

No, the little gold thing. He gave him a belt buckle.

Shawn  14:25

Alright, I still think it should have had a different title. Okay, I feel like what

Brad  14:30

would you call it? The Black Dragon.

Shawn  14:36

And the black dragon might have been cool too. Yeah. The glowing Black Dragon. I don't know. But not the least.

Brad  14:42

Barry Gordy presents the glowing Black Dragon. Yep.

Shawn  14:45

In 1985 it would have worked. I feel like there should have been more martial art scenes. Yes. They could have left out. I mean, I know Motown was trying to advertise and do their thing. But we didn't need all this dance sequence and the dance slash fight scene at the end. Now, it could have just been a whole martial art sequence.

Brad  15:11

So that kind of saved the movie. You thanks. Yeah, especially the little Chinese kid. It was breakdancing and beaten up people,

Shawn  15:20

I guess.

Brad  15:22

I mean, otherwise, the ending sequence is kind of bet.

Shawn  15:25

It was horrible. And then he just shows up with flowers. In everybody's in all white,

Brad  15:31

but did you keep his drip? Yes, it was pretty clean. He was looking godly with a gold trim.

Shawn  15:38

His his attire was pretty consistent. The whole movie

Brad  15:42

thing was pretty clean the whole movie. I like okay, I'm not

Shawn  15:47

disagree. What else did I change? I don't think vented his character was needed. Like they didn't have to make him fall in love. He kind of went on this journey and found the glow just dealing with show enough he didn't they didn't have to put, you know, a love interest in there. So and without the love interest. We didn't have to deal with this right? Exactly. In this Cyndi Lauper knockoff, right? Yeah,

Brad  16:10

I think they wanted.

Shawn  16:12

I feel like they wanted it to appeal to women. But we watch movies that are just action. Sometimes you think so? Yeah. Well, this one does.

Brad  16:21

No, you think they wanted it to be like, appealing to women. That's why they got the little subplot for vanity.

Shawn  16:28

Yeah, I feel like women like love stories.

Brad  16:32

Not this one. Now. Which

Shawn  16:33

one? You didn't like this one? Oh, yeah. No, not in this movie. It wasn't good.

Brad  16:36

You didn't like the scene where they were in a car. And they were very awkward. And they were talking about possibly, like, getting together and things like that.

Shawn  16:47

No, it was very awkward. His his. Also, how old is he supposed to be? I don't know. Yeah, cuz I think that's hard to like, decipher as well.

Brad  16:56

He's definitely supposed to be an adult.

Shawn  16:59

Yeah, but he don't come off as an adult. No, he's like, he's like, 17.

Brad  17:04

Yeah, he's given a lot of drive vibes.

Shawn  17:08

Well, not even I don't know how to drive. I don't know how to talk. Like his little brother was trying to teach him how to be black. Yeah. And that's in quotes.

Brad  17:18

Very fitting for the, I guess first movie we're choosing?

Shawn  17:22

Yeah, kinda know. So. Yeah, I don't know. I feel like they also could have, like the brother just all of a sudden took over like the last half of the movie. I didn't even know he had siblings, you know, in the beginning, when he's on this quest.

Brad  17:38

Um, yeah. I mean, they showed the family. We showed Keisha and they showed her brother.

Shawn  17:43

Yeah. And I felt like it became about the brother after that.

Brad  17:47

Yeah, well, yeah, he he was like kind of inciting incident got kidnapped. He,

Shawn  17:54

when he was with the friends, when he found that Laura was kissing his brother. And he's like, he was there when she got kidnapped again, or when?

Brad  18:03

That's that's where he got kidnapped to Oh, yeah. Yeah, he was just there to add some stakes. So basically, in like, my, in my predictions when I talked about like a friend getting killed or something like that. That's why I was saying like their brothers are closest thing to that. Yeah. Otherwise, like, Leroy wouldn't really have any. Yeah, reason to be there. Basically,

Shawn  18:28

I also think is kind of awkward at the end, when they get rescued. And the producer or whoever of the show was like, wherever you're bad. You're late. Like you don't know this whole building. We just undertake,

Brad  18:42

I think. I think this just felt to be a joke. Yeah. I think you didn't like any of the jokes. No. I like that one joke. Where, you know, the bad guy had, like, two white cards and one black art. Yeah. They were like, like, a bunch of black guys. And they like the black guy. Like it was like, yeah, the black guy. Yeah, that was pretty good.

Shawn  19:06

I think show notes. The whole crew was cool. Like their look. And then when they were in the dojo and the women are a mess of a Bruce Lee right. Yeah, yeah.

Brad  19:17

Yeah. When you seem to like that part. Yeah, that was pretty funny. I think you enjoyed just women bullying men?

Shawn  19:28

No. Just in this movie, and then whatever slapped him in he like went into his fighting stance. What happened? One of the women slapped him like they slapped his face with his finest stance. Yeah,

Brad  19:42

right. Yeah. Like he was gonna do something. The handwriting. Oh,

Shawn  19:46

and I did like that whole lore interaction when they kept trying to push his head to bow down.

Brad  19:51

Yeah, that went on for a really long time. Bow, like a little tube. Yeah, and then all of a sudden Just get some converses. Yeah. Quotes. We got he got kicked in the face. We've got verses.

Shawn  20:07

Is there anything you would change? Yeah, a whole lot. Okay. So

Brad  20:13

they should have hired like a choreographer for the fights. I'm sure they did, but they should have hired. Yeah.

Shawn  20:21

Which is interesting, right? Because what's the name tie mark? Please. Bruce Lee Roy, he's a real martial arts person. That doesn't mean he knows how to like choreograph for movies. I wonder if he had any input.

Brad  20:34

But if he did, it was trash. Input sort of been zero.

Shawn  20:41

If that was true. Get a real person

Brad  20:44

could say Yeah, his for his opening scene that you mentioned was fine, because it was just him just kicking. Yeah. And doing push ups. So you couldn't really do anything wrong with that. But as soon as it came to fighting someone who also doesn't know any martial arts, like showing up to he's not a martial artist. Yeah, right. So he just a random dude. Pretty funny and iconic, but rather random in this circumstance. Yeah. So he's just they're going through the motions, I'm sure. And I don't know. All that good. I'm sure you love the special effects.

Shawn  21:26

Whatever else? Yeah. No, it was bad. Yeah.

Brad  21:30

But I'm gonna ignore that. Ever chop it up to 85. Okay. I'm gonna take points for that. Because if I retake points for special effects, everything would be like a zero.

Shawn  21:40

Yeah. All right. What else you change? Um,

Brad  21:44

I think you said this, but basically no, Randy. Yes. It would have been nice if it just him just actually like, fighting people.

Shawn  21:54

We could have been better if we saw him, like, get through the other dragon stages, right? Yeah, maybe they were battles. And then the last one, you know, was the main focus of the

Brad  22:08

movie. Maybe? Yeah.

Shawn  22:11

That would have been more entertaining.

Brad  22:13

Yeah, I don't know what I expected. I mean, I guess I said what I expected, but I just wanted something better. It just seemed like it no one knew what they were doing when a Regulus in terms of like ambition.

Shawn  22:27

I mean, I guess that's what happens when you have a music company decided to become film directors and screenwriters.

Brad  22:35

Yeah. The best part of the new movie was the soundtrack.

Shawn  22:40

Yeah, so they should have just start to the soundtrack and have somebody else write the movie. Yeah. I also there, it was just a lot of questionable stuff. Like this record exec had some kind of animal in this little aquarium that you never saw. But he's like, eating whole pig legs and just bones are coming out of the water. Yeah,

Brad  23:01

in time, like, shoves his face in the water. Nothing happens.

Shawn  23:05

Yeah, just pulled his hair off it like eight has to pay. Probably.

Brad  23:09

There was no payoff for that. In the movie. No one got killed with it or anything? Yeah. For no reason, apparently.

Shawn  23:18

Yeah. And then the whole little scene where the exec was interviewing all of these killers. That was kind of entertaining. That guy that was like barking or growling.

Brad  23:28

Yeah. And he hit butter the table and broke it. Yeah, it was pretty good.

Shawn  23:32

Yeah. But I don't think it was necessary, though.

Brad  23:34

No, yeah. It's a little like, how many? There were some good moments of like slapstick, and like, physical and visual comedy? Yeah. Like when he goes to the Chinese guys, because he thinks they're sort of masters. And they're playing craps. And they're like, do you not play craps? And he's like, of course, I know. I play craps. So you're trying to be all black.

Shawn  23:59

Yeah. This is how we don't know Harlem. Yeah, and it's actually

Brad  24:05

a good little visual gag. Yeah, I laughed at that one. I like the part where they're offering money to show enough show nuts like, I don't want the money. I just want to beat him up. Oh, yeah. The guy is holding the case. And the case closes on stumps.

Shawn  24:21

Tell me where to find. Yeah. Yeah, that was kind of interesting, too. Because they're big guy wanted to cry. They also he didn't really have a point. He was supposed to be a wrestler and whatever. Boxer boxer, okay. But they he did nothing. He did nothing. He was nothing. It was like they wrote this little animal a pig like,

Brad  24:42

yeah, it was like they wrote a script with like ideas. And then just some of them. Just nothing happened with it.

Shawn  24:50

How did we end up with this movie? Again? You put it on our list, but How'd you hear about it?

Brad  24:54

I just feel like there's a famous quote. Yeah,

Shawn  24:59

I never heard of this. Before you mentioned it, like I always,

Brad  25:01

I don't know if it was blockbuster or like, video American or one of those places, but I feel like I would always see the cover for it.

Shawn  25:08

I used to go to Video American quite often. Yeah. When I had film class. Yeah. So very interesting store. I don't know

Brad  25:15

if you've ever seen, like the cover for this. Like, it's just a black dude looking ripped, like Worsley. Like, if you like martial arts, so it's a pretty interesting cover. If you're black too.

Shawn  25:26

Yeah, I don't think I've looked at the cover. I'll have to take a look at that. But you didn't give you a rating? Yeah. Like you. I will give it a three, three out of five. Okay. Do you recommend other people to watch it?

Brad  25:39

Yes. If they want to, like just straight up laugh at a movie? Okay,

Shawn  25:44

I agree with that.

Brad  25:45

If you actually like want to like it, probably not, like, see, like, Would

Shawn  25:49

you watch it again?

Brad  25:52

I think so. Yeah. Because now I kind of know what's going on. But like the vibe, because I've we went in as like, double blind. So I like you weren't able to be like, oh, like you should be in this mood for it. I thought it was I didn't know it's gonna be like

Shawn  26:08

a comedy. Yeah, comedy, comedy than anything.

Brad  26:12

I thought was gonna be a little bit more serious. I'm not sure why I thought that.

Shawn  26:19

I feel like martial arts movies generally are. And so going into it with the lens of it being a martial arts movie. I think you would want it to be more serious.

Brad  26:29

I mean, I guess we should have got tipped off if he's going to be like, he's going after the glow. Like, how serious is that gonna be?

Shawn  26:38

I mean, we didn't know what the glow was at first. So it could have been, like, real serious.

Brad  26:44

I mean, it was kind of cool when he turned golden at then. No, no, it wasn't.

Shawn  26:50

No. Okay. I don't think I ever watched it again. Oh,

Brad  26:54

I forgot a favorite part where he just like I didn't know where I kick show enough through a door. At the end of the last like fight between the both of them went before he fell in the pool or whatever it was. That was before show enough gets up disappears, and his hands start glowing red. Oh, yeah. But he like, kicked them like really hard. He like really felt the impact of it. And he just came out of nowhere. You felt it? I felt it. Yeah. Well, I guess that's good. In my face.

Shawn  27:22

It puts you in the naughty even 4d experience because it didn't have 40. But you felt it?

Brad  27:30

That's cool. Yeah. No muscle my face.

Shawn  27:32

I don't think I would watch it. I don't think I would recommend it.

Brad  27:36

I think if they just made a cut that cuts out vanity.

Shawn  27:40

Alright, that'd be great. If they cut out vanity in the record exec and they just had his journey to figure out how to get the glow. I would watch it. You but

Brad  27:51

then you would have just five minutes

Shawn  27:55

later just remake it.

Brad  27:57

Who would you want to play?

Shawn  27:58

I have no idea. I don't know any martial artists. I'm gonna throw No, they're definitely not any black. or white.

Brad  28:08

They don't have to be a martial artist. What about like, like, Tareekh or something like that? No.

Shawn  28:13

I don't even like him. Yeah, I don't know. Who am I cast

Brad  28:18

in it? Like Jaden Smith or something like that? It probably wouldn't

Shawn  28:23

be a good Jaden roll. Yeah, but no, but somebody should remake it.

Brad  28:28

Just not a music label.

Shawn  28:31

No, definitely not. Definitely not.

Brad  28:34

So it's interesting, because to me Tidemark looks like Barry Gordy son but ripped in the movie. So I wonder that was like inspiration for his like, look in the movie to look

Shawn  28:49

like Barry Gordy. Yeah, it's like it's fun.

Brad  28:55

That's kind of weird that right? Maybe Google very gory son. I'm gonna look at it right now. Like the the hairstyle like I'm sure it's just like an 80s hairstyle. But I feel like they have a very similar vibe.

Shawn  29:07

So we told you in the intro that we're going to have these phones nearby so we can look stuff up. I will watch one of his sons Rachel know,

Brad  29:16

the one with the song with Michael Jackson.

Shawn  29:19

Who has a sound Michael Jackson. How does that go?

Brad  29:24

I always feel like somebody's watching me. But Michael Jackson was singing the course.

Shawn  29:32

And you said it's Barry Gordy son. Yep. Barry Gordy Jr.

Brad  29:37

Yeah, maybe? Which is like red foods,

Shawn  29:42

because he was the youngest

Brad  29:44

and the blue ones uncle.

Shawn  29:49

Wait, no, that's no different mothers though, because this is Barry Gordy. Third is also known as Barry Gordy Jr. Which is like the Barry Gordy that we know One that we've been talking about. I don't know who whose children are. Well, he has a lot of children. He's 92 All right,

Brad  30:07

let me try this.

Shawn  30:08

So maybe Barry Gordy the fourth. Is that who you're thinking about, but I don't think he looks like this one. Oh, okay. So what is his name? This guy does like Muay Thai mark. Somebody's watching me, Rockwell. Rockwell Gordy. Was that his actual name though? His real name is Kennedy. William Gordy. There we go. Gotcha. Okay, because I'm like, Ah, I don't know who this man is. But that's a fun fact. Because I didn't know that. That was Barry Gordy sign on that song.

Brad  30:45

Yeah. But so when they first introduced timeout, like, give me some Gordy vibes.

Shawn  30:53

Yeah. And then it said Barry Gordy.

Brad  30:56

Would it make sense? Because you know, you were cute, right? The look of your mate.

Shawn  31:01

Oh, so also, I wanted to look up the movie poster, right? Because I had never seen it. Um, yeah, I guess if you look at the movie poster, this is kind of cool. Yeah, let me see it. Yeah. Again, the last of his kind, the best of the best. But we don't even get to see this. Cuz if show enough is not even a real martial arts expert. He's not even fighting the best or like his hardest challenger to get the glow.

Brad  31:29

Right? I mean, well, technically, it looks like show enough had his own glow. He had a wreck glow. Right? He did. So maybe he was a master in its own right.

Shawn  31:39

I mean, so when they introduced him, well, not when they introduced him. But in the movie theater scene. His goons or whatever said that Bruce Lee was the last person he needed to fight. And so he lost.

Brad  31:54

There was a lot of Alright, so like, just stuff they did off screen, I guess. So like, they kind of established that Leroy green is really good at martial arts. But a lot of just any of that. Yeah, there was no showing. Just a lot of telling.

Shawn  32:11

Yeah, I don't think I like that. I feel like it's a movie. Show me everything.

Brad  32:15

Right. That's what you're supposed to do. Yeah.

Shawn  32:16

I'm not reading a book, right? I'm not like, I don't know. Show me. It's a movie. You had time. You could have cut out the love scenes. Right? To show me

Brad  32:28

skills. Yeah. Sometimes I felt like I was just watching. Like a music video without music.

Shawn  32:35

So I don't know what the budget was. But it appeared very low budget to me. Yeah. Look at the budget. I am. But what did you think before I give you the number?

Brad  32:47

Well, I've technically already looked at it. So I think 30 million is either how much they made or how much it cost?

Shawn  32:53

So the film's total gross. Was 33,000,030 3 million. Okay. Yeah. And the production budget was 10 million. Yeah.

Brad  33:03

So they may?

Shawn  33:07

Yeah, they made more than they used to produce it. Right.

Brad  33:11

And generally, you want to make more than double how much you paid?

Shawn  33:16

Yeah. So they did they did that. But it doesn't mean it was good. No. All right. Anything else you want to say about this?

Brad  33:25

No, no. I just, I just wanted more from this one.

Shawn  33:29

Do you think this was a good first movie for us to review?

Brad  33:32

I don't know. Because you you would as you would think like, you might want to start off with something that like Gavin as you're like, oh, yeah, I want to do more of these things. Like,

Shawn  33:44

let's see, I feel like this. This makes me want to do more. And I hope that they're better. But I do like that we both have never seen it like first. First go.

Brad  33:58

I think now we move on to something that like one of us has seen. Which one are you like excited to do? You have 1x

Shawn  34:07

I'm probably really excited for you to watch Jason's lyric.

Brad  34:15

Alright, so we'll do that one last.

Shawn  34:19

Yeah, at the end of our million movie titles. I which one? Are you excited for me to do?

Brad  34:25

Oh, no, I haven't looked at the list in a while.

Shawn  34:27

Oh, actually. Also, don't be a menace. I'm looking forward to you.

Brad  34:32

Yeah, so maybe that one should be next.

Shawn  34:34

I think that'd be a great next one. All right.

Brad  34:37

It was a little comedy. Yeah, I think it's hilarious to cleanse my palate.

Shawn  34:44

And then we get to something serious. Thank you.

Brad  34:47

Yeah, I'm looking at the list. I feel like a lot of either yours. But that's just because that's just the VAX. Okay, you just see more of these in me.

Shawn  34:57

So let's see. Yeah, I would go with them.

Brad  35:00

I can't remember why. I'm trying to look I'm like, which ones have I've seen? I don't think I've seen any of these. Well, that's the podcast.

Shawn  35:09

But yeah, it doesn't mean that you've seen them. But which one do you think? Just, you know that we're

Brad  35:14

talking about like, which one and I've seen that. I'm excited that you haven't seen that mix. Excited for you to see it for the first time.

Shawn  35:22

Yeah, but now I'm saying which one do you think will be interesting for me to watch? Even if you haven't seen it? Gotcha. You know something about it.

Brad  35:30

I'm gonna try to try to boomerang that's already my favorite camera.

Shawn  35:34

I have no idea. I've never never seen it. I think I might have heard of it. But I don't know who's in it what it's about. So here's another common

Brad  35:43

and oh, probably blue Avenue. Yeah, that's what I was looking for. And I was like, I know there's one that I've seen that as suggested that we watch.

Shawn  35:53

Yeah. All right. And then you might say to wrap this up. No,

Brad  35:56

I'd say if you enjoyed this, be sure to subscribe.
